An acute dental trauma requires prompt action. If you have been in an accident and injured your teeth — a fall, a blow, or a collision — it is important to see a dentist as quickly as possible. Time makes a significant difference to what we can save, and you do not have to face it alone.
When an accident happens
A tooth can become loosened, displaced, fractured, or knocked out entirely. Even when it appears undamaged, it may have sustained internal injury. It is therefore always worth having it examined, even if it is not painful. If a permanent tooth has been knocked out, it can often be replanted — keep it moist in a little milk or in your mouth while you make your way to us.
How we can help
We assess the damage carefully, evaluate each tooth individually, and devise a plan that preserves as much as possible. Treatment of dental trauma follows recognised professional guidelines, so you are in safe hands. Call the clinic — we can always offer you an emergency appointment the same day if you call before 9:00 am.
Questions & answers
FAQ
A tooth has been completely knocked out — what do I do?
Hold it by the crown, not the root, and rinse it gently if it is dirty. A permanent tooth can often be replanted if it is done quickly. Keep it in a little milk or in your mouth, and call us straight away.
Should I seek help even if the tooth does not hurt?
Yes. A tooth can sustain internal damage without causing immediate pain. After any blow to the teeth, it is always worth having it checked — call us and we will find a time for you.
